The smartwatch market is still in its very early stages of development, with the three major platforms—Pebble, Samsung Gear, and Android Wear—each possessing unique capabilities. However, all three types of smartwatches share a significant drawback: their charging methods.
Low-quality proprietary chargers and relatively short battery life make the smartwatch charging experience quite frustrating. Fortunately, there is a glimmer of hope—starting with the Moto 360 and its Qi wireless charging cradle.
Currently, every smartwatch on the market—even products from the same brand and series—has its own peculiar, incompatible charging port. Smartwatch charging cradles vary widely, taking up extra space when traveling and, in some cases, even breaking. If a charger does break, recharging the device becomes a major hassle. While many chargers are essentially a combination of USB and spring pins (for waterproofing), a unified standard is lacking. This is especially strange when compared to the widespread adoption of microUSB or Lightning ports in smartphones, and it's particularly problematic given how frequently smartwatches need charging.
In March of this year, Motorola revealed that the Moto 360 would feature a secret charging method. Weeks later, FCC documents revealed this secret to be Qi wireless charging.
Many users have already experienced the convenience of wireless charging with their smartphones, and this charging method would undoubtedly be a significant improvement for smartwatches, as it only requires placing the device on a compatible charging pad; no charging clips or spring pins are needed.
Unlike the varied charging ports of other smartwatches, Qi is a standard, meaning the Moto 360 should be compatible with existing Qi wireless chargers. Therefore, even if your charger breaks, there's no need to worry excessively, as replacements are readily available.
The Moto 360 is undoubtedly one of the most attractive Android Wear smartwatches, although its true capabilities remain to be seen, and we await its official release. However, like the device's unique design, its wireless charging capability will be a major draw. We hope other manufacturers will follow suit and standardize smartwatch charging methods.

USB is a commonly used PC interface. It only has four wires: two for power and two for signal, as shown in the figure below. Therefore, the signal is transmitted serially, and the USB interface is also called a serial port. The speed of USB 2.0 can reach 480Mbps, meeting various industrial and civil needs. The output voltage and current of the USB interface are: +5V 500mA. There is actually an error; the maximum cannot exceed +/-0.2V, which is 4.8-5.2V.
