The smartwatch market is still in a very early stage of development, and the three major platforms—Pebble, Samsung Gear, and Android Wear—all have their own unique capabilities. But there's one really bad experience with all three types of smartwatches, and that's the way they charge.

Low-quality proprietary chargers and relatively short battery life make charging a smartwatch a very frustrating experience. Luckily, we're not out of hope -- it starts with the Moto360 and its Qi wireless charging stand.

Every smartwatch on the market today—even products of the same brand and series—has its own strange, unusable charging port. Smartwatch charging stands are all different, take up extra space when traveling, and in some extreme cases, they can even break. If the unfortunate thing is that it breaks, then charging your own device can become very troublesome. Granted, many chargers are basically a combination of USB + pogo pins (for waterproofing), but there is a lack of a unified standard. Compared to the microUSB or Lightning charging ports that have become commonplace in smartphones, this is very weird and difficult to get used to. This problem is especially acute considering that smartwatches are charged so frequently.

In March, Motorola revealed that the Moto360 will have a secret charging method. We also learned from FCC documents that were exposed a few weeks later that the mysterious method was Qi wireless charging.

I believe that many users have already experienced the convenience brought by wireless charging on their smartphones. For smart watches, this charging method will obviously be a big improvement, because you only need to place the device on a compatible charging pad. Rechargeable, no charging clip required, and no pogo pins.

Different from the different charging ports of other smart watches, Qi is actually a standard, so Moto360 should be compatible with the same standard wireless chargers currently on the market. So even if your charger breaks, you don't have to worry too much, so you can easily buy a new one.

The Moto360 is definitely the most attractive of the first Android Wear smartwatches, but the true strength of this product has not yet been verified, and we are still waiting for its official release. But just like the device's unique design, its ability to charge wirelessly will be a big draw. We also hope that other manufacturers can follow and follow suit and unify the charging method of smart watches.
